My good friend Heather and I took a weekend trip in June 2014 to go to the BottleRock music festival in Napa Valley for an extended weekend of music and of course, wine. These are just a few pictures from our trip!
On a warm and sunny day, we found ourselves at the famous Robert Mondavi winery and enjoyed a glass of their Chardonnay on one of the many outdoor tables overlooking the vineyards.
Chateau Montelena was established in 1882. Besides the beautiful building and it’s surrounding area, it is most famous for winning the white wine portion of the historic “Judgment of Paris” wine competition in 1976, in which wines from around the world competed. This win was said to have changed the world’s views on California wines forever.
Beringer Winery’s claim to fame is that they are “the oldest continuously operating winery in the Napa Valley.” We had a nice lunch outside and walked around the grounds. There was a lot of information posted around the grounds to read about the history of the winery, including all the famous celebrities that stayed here back in the day.
On our second morning, we were in the mood for some sparkling wine. Domaine Carneros gave us a great selection of four of their sparkling wines, complete with detailed information about each. The building sits high above their vineyards, which you can view while sitting outside sampling their wine. The sparkling wines were delicious, but unfortunately we did not have any room in our suitcases to buy a few bottles for home.
On our second day of BottleRock, we turned around after watching a band and ran into Michael Franti. He is a well-known singer (“Say Hey (I Love You)” and “I’m Alive” to name a few) who was there supporting his fellow musicians. It was a pleasant surprise to run into him!
It was a very fun trip with perfect weather and great music from many bands (we counted 23 total that we were able to see). I would highly recommend the BottleRock music festival each June if you get the chance. I cannot wait to go back to Napa Valley, as we barely touched the many wineries they have there.
