What do you get for the person who’s always on the go exploring a new hike or camping in the mountains? While it can be tough finding gifts for outdoor lovers, you’ll want to think of items they may not have yet that can enhance their experience and make it easier outside.
This year has brought plenty of changes to my travel plans, mainly that I’ve just stayed in Washington State all year. While I’ve mourned canceled travel plans, I’ve also been grateful to explore the outdoors this year. From hiking to camping, I’ve slowly started to add to my collection of essentials when it comes to outdoor gear.
Based on my experience, I’ve created this list of the best gifts for outdoor lovers. Whether you’re looking for adventure-themed gifts, gifts for hiking lovers, or general outdoor adventure gifts, this list will help you!
1. Lightweight Chair
Having a lightweight chair has been amazing on all my outdoor adventures, so I highly recommend it for ideas when you need gifts for adventure lovers. I used to think I could just sit on the ground when I took breaks from hiking, but now that I’m into much longer hikes I see the value of this chair. You’ll get much-needed back support when you’re taking a rest so your muscles can fully relax.
This chair is also perfect for backpacking because you don’t want to bring any extra weight when you have to hike to your campsite. At only two pounds, you can easily strap this to the side of your backpack until you’re ready to use it.
Whether you’re hiking or camping, it’s one of the most practical gifts for outdoor enthusiasts, as they’ll use it over and over again. There are three different colors to choose from.
2. Magnetic Campfire Flask Set
There’s nothing like enjoying a good drink after a long day of hiking, so you’ll want to add this magnetic campfire flask set to your list of gifts for outdoor lovers. The chrome body will keep whatever drink you put in their cold so you can enjoy that whiskey or white wine later in the day.
You don’t have to worry about this coming apart in your backpack either, as the two tumblers are held together by magnets until you’re ready to use it. I also love how little space this takes up, as the cups stack and you can keep your drink inside the tumbler instead of bringing them all separately.
3. Glow in the Dark Playing Cards
These glow in the dark playing cards are such a genius idea that I wish I thought of them first! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been camping in places where fires aren’t allowed and there’s suddenly nothing to do once the sun goes down. This keeps the entertainment going, as these cards will stay lit up for up to two hours.
They’re also waterproof, which is a must when you’re in the outdoors, and makes them one of the best gifts for outdoor lovers. You don’t have to worry about having wet hands or dropping them in the dirt since you can easily clean them. They’re simple but one of the most unique gifts for outdoor lovers.
4. Personalized Travel Pushpin Map
Part of the fun of exploring the outdoors is telling people all your stories later. This USA pushpin map lets you mark all your outdoor adventures so you don’t forget where you’ve been. I like that this is both a decoration and an outdoor experience gift so you can remember all the experience you had every time you look at the map.
While you may have seen similar maps before, what makes this unique is each color pin represents a different person in your family. That means you can keep track of where in the United States everyone has been and exchange stories.
You can also track all your wordly travels with this world pushpin map. This can lead to even more great stories, as you can talk about the world travels you had when you were younger to your kids and inspire them to travel the world in the future.
5. Homesick Candles
While the most hardcore people will be outdoors no matter how rainy or windy it is, many will choose to take a break indoors. These Homesick candles are perfect for when you want to feel like you’re in the outdoors but can’t temporarily due to the weather.
These candles can remind you of certain places you wish you were:
They also have location-based candles if you wish you could smell what the city was like when you last visited.
While they may not smell exactly as you remember the experience or city smelling like, it’s a fun idea when you’re feeling homesick for that place. They’re also made from soy wax and burn up to 60 to 80 hours.
6. Cabin Getaway
If you’re struggling to find some of the best gifts for outdoor lovers this holiday season, what about a weekend in a cabin? There are plenty of cabin getaways, and I even put together a list of Airbnb cabins in Washington State to check out.
Sometimes the people in your life don’t like receiving gifts, so experience gifts for outdoor lovers like this are better. You can pick a cabin by a hike they’ve been wanting to do, near the ocean, or deep in the forest if you just want a quiet weekend of bonding.
Once you book your getaway, make sure to have everything you need to enjoy your weekend:
- Merino wool top – Stay warm whether you’re exploring inside or outside.
- Down puffy blanket – This is not only one of the warmest but the most compact blankets, as it rolls up very small.
- Ugg mini boots – These are the perfect boots to throw on after you get out of bed and have coffee in your cabin.
7. LifeStraw Bottle
I bought a LifeStraw bottle years ago to bring with me on all my travels to make sure I got enough water. While I still use it on trips, I’ve begun using it when I explore the outdoors around Washington too. You can fill up your water bottle from your closest water source, such as a nearby river, and the water is filtrated as you drink it through the straw.
The bottle removes 99.999% of all bacteria and you can drink up to 1,000 gallons before you need to replace the straw (but can keep the bottle). With a carabiner on the top, it’s easy to attach to your hiking backpack. I think this is one of the best gifts for outdoor lovers because you never have to worry about running out of drinkable water with this two-step filtration system.
8. Hiking Backpack
Having a good backpack is key when you do any type of outdoor adventure. Over the years, I’ve purchased several by Osprey because I like the style and fit of them, and they come in fun colors. This Osprey Tempest 20 Pack is one of the most practical gifts for outdoorsy women, as they’ll be able to store everything they need in here for a day hike.
If you’re backpacking or camping, you’ll want a larger pack to store all the items you need to bring with you. I would recommend the Osprey Kyte 46 Pack which is more than double the size and can fit plenty. This is what I brought with me on my last backpacking trip and I was able to put everything inside while strapping my tent to the outside of it.
Helpful tip – whichever backpack you get, you can usually go on YouTube and find videos showing some of the features the packs have that may not be obvious! I did that to research this post and didn’t realize what may look like a random strap or loop can have a very useful purpose.
9. Merino Wool
As much as I hike each year, I only just discovered the benefits of merino wool during outdoor activities. Not only does it keep you warm during cold weather, but it dries quickly. Best of all, it doesn’t smell in case you decide to get a beer or food after your hike. Merino wool is also the best thing to wear on multiple days of backpacking so you can minimize the clothing you need to bring. This makes it one of the best gifts for nature lovers.
There are a variety of high-quality brands to choose from, such as Woolx and Smartwool. While they’re starting to make more items with merino wool, these are my top recommendations to get when looking for the best gifts for outdoor lovers. Having a top, bottom, and socks made out of merino wool will ensure your core stays warm, which is crucial when you’re outdoors.
This Jetboil is another new purchase I added to my hiking gear this year, and now I can’t imagine going without it. On my first backpacking trip, I was able to bring just this and cook breakfast, lunch, and my coffee for the whole trip without the need for a stove. Within minutes you’ll have boiling hot water and be ready to make your meal, which is why it’s one of the best gifts for outdoor lovers.
You can even use this on a day hike, as I brought it with me this year on a summer hike in Washington where I wanted a warm meal at the top. You could also do this during Washington winter hikes where you might want hot chocolate during your break.
The Jetboil is compact so it won’t take up too much room in your backpack. You just need to bring a lighter and some matches and you’re good to go. The fuel canister is the only thing that will need to be replaced eventually, but they’re very affordable.
These outdoor gifts are perfect for stocking stuffers or if you’re on a budget when looking for gifts for hiking lovers, camping lovers, or cabin lovers.
I’ve been using this Seattle CBD company all year when I need to chill out. With varying flavors and strengths, Bizzy CBD gummies are perfect to use when you want to relax after a long day of hiking. The women who run this company are so sweet and always happy to answer any questions you have about the product.
A mini flask is always one of the easiest gifts for outdoorsry people, as who doesn’t appreciate an eight-ounce flask that you can fit in your pocket? This makes celebrating a successful day outside easier or warms you up as you sit around the fire.
Mini hot sauce
Backpacking food has a reputation for being bland, but these mini hot sauces completely change that. You can put varying levels of hot sauce on your chili, hot dog, and even eggs so you’ll always be able to mix up the taste of your meals. They take up virtually no space, so there’s no excuse not to bring these smart outdoor gift ideas.
Keep your drink extra cold (and stylish) with this adorable puffy coat drink jacket. The coat is even insulated so you’ll keep your hands warm and dry when drinking your beverage. This was just too cute to not include on this list and is the perfect stocking stuffer when you need gift ideas for outdoor lovers.
Hopefully this list of the best gifts for outdoor lovers gave you some helpful ideas! If there’s anything you would add to this list, let me know by sending me an email.
