I’m back from my wellness retreat in Costa Rica, and I’m so excited to share with you how it went! Going somewhere tropical on vacation is always nice, but going somewhere beautiful for a retreat is even better. It was so nice to get a break from the Seattle rain and enjoy weather in the high 80s! It didn’t hurt that I spent time in that weather rebuilding my brand in Costa Rica.
After a long day of flying, I finally landed in Liberia and was enthusiastically greeted by Katrina from Fit Life Creation and the other influencer on the trip, Mandee from The Tour Wife. We had a private driver for the entire trip, which I’ve never had before. Half an hour later we pulled up to this stunning villa, and I knew I was in for a treat.
We also had a private chef for the whole retreat, and she was pretty amazing. Every meal she would give us fresh fruit in additional to traditional Costa Rican food such as rice, beans, and fish. I’ve never ate so well on a trip or felt so great. That’s definitely something I want to continue in my future travels.
The first morning we went to Las Pumas Rescue Center, which has animals of all kinds, including monkeys, pumas, and parakeets. These animals were either injured or rescued from homes where people tried to civilize them. Once they’re healed, they’re released back into the wild where they belong. I was SO happy to come here – animals are way better than humans sometimes, hence my love for them. The parakeets even said “hola” to us as we walked by!
On the second full day, we took a break to go to Diamante Eco Adventure Park. We started the morning going snorkeling (and I had my first experience being stung by jellyfish!). We then relaxed for a few hours at lunch overlooking the water. In the afternoon, we went zip lining through the forest with a view of the ocean. I’ve been zip lining in Whistler before, but this quickly went to the top of my list as one of the most scenic places I’ve been.
The next morning we did a photo shot on Playa Hermosa, which was a new experience for me. I’m not very photogenic, but the photographer was great. I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures once the photographer sends them. It was a really scenic place to take pictures, and I loved watching all the locals slowly start their morning.
Building Our Brands
Didn’t I come here for a retreat, you say? Yes, now for the reason I came – to improve both myself and my brand. We had daily workshops throughout the day, but Katrina did a great job of breaking them up with activities. We had our own pool, and even did a few sessions in there. No stuffy conference rooms here – we wanted to work on our tans while we learned!
We covered so many different topics that my head is still spinning, and in a good way! Katrina gave me amazing ideas of how to build my brand, and foundations that need to be strong before moving on. We covered everything from managing money to having healthy relationships in our life to creating space.
Creating space was a huge concept of the weekend that kept getting repeated. As a freelancer, it’s hard to not work 24/7 or say no to clients who message me late with a request. I learned that I need to set boundaries to maintain my sanity, and let things wait until the morning.
Creating the life you love was heavily emphasized, which I completely agree with. Sometimes with blogging it’s hard not to get tied up in comparing yourself to other bloggers who get more traffic or go on amazing trips, but that’s not what it’s about. All the posts I write on this blog are on topics I’m excited to write about and share with you, and I’m going to keep it that way.
The workshops were immensely helpful. They pointed out strengths that we should build on, and weaknesses that we can work on improving. I really had no idea what to expect out of the weekend, but I came out of it with SO many new ideas for my brand. I’m excited to share them with you once I start working on them!
I still have so much more to share on this trip, but you’ll just have to stay tuned for my future posts! In the meantime, if you want to find out more about Fit Life Creation, click here. If you’re looking for a transformation in your life, the website has almost every program out there to help you. Use the code “Marissa” for 10% off anything on there! As far as what’s next for me, I had such an amazing time at this retreat that I’m considering co-leading a future retreat! Some locations they’re going to in 2017 are Cuba, Brazil, and Greece. Stay tuned for where I decide!
What country would you want to go on a retreat to?
This post was in partnership with Fit Life Creation, but all opinions are my own as always.
