While I always attempt to eat well when I’m traveling, coming back to a regular eating schedule at home is the hardest part. Depending on how long I’ve been gone for or how many layovers I just had, sometimes I’m just plain tired and don’t feel like grocery shopping. I’ve found that getting back to my normal routine, whether it’s working out or going to bed at my regular time, is the best way to feel like myself again.
When I heard about Blue Apron’s delivery service, I was skeptical at first. I assumed that meant they were sending me processed meals full of ingredients I couldn’t even pronounce. The reviews I read were glowing though, so I signed up to get three meals to try out. It also seemed like it could be the perfect way to solve my problem of eating healthy as soon as I got home from a trip.
I’m so glad I ended up trying it. I came home to a box full of my ingredients, and it was even in an insulted bag with ice to make sure it stayed fresh. The bag was full of so many ingredients, and I was surprised to see it was actual food, not pre-made meals. There were fruit and vegetables to use in my meals for the week, and most of the ingredients were even labeled so you knew exactly what meal they’d go in. It really can’t get easier than that.
Each recipe comes with a colorful instruction card showing you exactly what you’re making. While I’ve been improving my cooking skills over the years, I was a little intimidated as some of these meals looked a bit fancy. Every recipe has very detailed instructions on how to make each step, and not once did I have any confusion on what to do next.
All the meals took less than an hour, and they were some of the best meals I’ve ever made myself. I had a cod sandwich, a smoked mozzarella and cabbage flatbread, and acorn squash with couscous, all with a different type of salad. For a two-person meal, they give you three meals for the week. You’ll have leftovers though, so three meals can easily take you through the whole week.
Besides using only the freshest ingredients, I also love that you can choose a meal plan based on your dietary preference. I don’t eat meat, but still got three amazing meals that fit into my dietary plan. I loved how great I felt after each meal and not weighed down like when I get takeout food.
You can choose from a two-person plan or a family plan, and you can even skip weeks if you’ll be out of town. If you have a crazy life during the week with work or shuttling the kids around, you’ll want to check this service out. It’s so convenient to be able to come home after a stressful day and have all your groceries on your porch. As a traveler, I know I’ll be using this in the future to have all of my meals for the week at my door when I get back.
